Editor’s note: As mentioned earlier in the newsletter, our association is marking its 40th anniversary this year. Here is a little background on the original meeting.
The organizational meeting of the association was held on April 12, 1976, at the Research Station on University Avenue in Charlottetown. The executive committee that was elected that from meeting was: President – J. Malcolm MacKenzie; Vice President – Chester R. Moore; Secretary-Treasurer – Mrs. Jean Koke.
Those present at that first meeting were: Gerald Johnstone (Provincial Poultry Fieldman), Frank J. Costello, Enola Westaway, Jean Koke, Jacob Koke, Chester R. Moore, James Butler, Ralph MacPherson, Garth Taylor, Reg MacLure, Vernie Webster, Gerrit Loo, and J. Malcom MacKenzie.
We had a great turnout for the annual meeting. It is good to see it so well attended. Although numbers were down for the Bantam & Pigeon Show, it was still a nice show. One of the purposes of these shows is to give members an opportunity to get together for a few hours and enjoy a visit.
As I mentioned at the meeting, I have now completed 30 years as secretary. Looks like I am now into my 31st.
Our attention now turns to the Spring Show in Borden in May. That will be here soon.
